Mike’s my kind of guy.

“Our philosophy is still the same, we want to deliver a really great wine to our customers at a price they can afford to drink it every day.” -Mike Press Wines

After 42 years making wine for the big boys such as Penfolds, Seppelts, Krondorf and as Chief Winemaker for Mildara Blass, Mike and his wife Judy decided they would leave the corporate side of the wine business and get in touch with the land by growing the best grapes possible in the premium Adelaide Hills region. The results have been nothing short of amazing! Consistently great products and low prices make Mike Press a name you can trust when picking out a bottle of vino, anytime.

Mike Press (South Australia)

  • Pinot Noir
  • 2009
  • 13%
  • 750ml (Screw Top)
  • I paid: $13

This wine displays amazing colour, ruby red with lots of contrast literally makes the glass sparkle! The first thing I notice on the nose is a sweet treacle and leather smell, chased with faint watermelon, light cherry and dusty dirt. Wet dark fruits of plum and dates begin the taste profile. Mild spices and brandy are quick to mix themselves in. A smooth nectarine skin taste leaves just the right amount of fullness in the cheeks for a pleasant, flavoursome and drawn out finish.

Pinot is a hard variety to get right, extremely inconsistent and mostly unpredictable. Locating a good Pinot Noir for under $20 is a feat within itself. Mike Press, however, has done an exceptional job with this wine. It’s not the lightest Pinot you will drink but I’m not complaining. Well worth the $13
