Hogging a Hoggie

Hoggies Estate is one of Australia’s premier producers of boutique wines. You won’t find them in your supermarkets or major liquor outlets. But if my relatively limited experience of their wines is anything to go on they’re worth seeking out (I found mine from a local boutique wine shop).

Think ‘wet fruit salad drizzled with honey’. Peach, rock melons and pineapple smoothly kick things off. A quick millisecond of lemon bites the tip of my tongue before sweet honey takes over. Lime zest and faint oak mix themselves through the mid palate and things wrap up beautifully with dried peaches and a nice ripened acidity aftertaste.

Smooooooth! There is next to no mineral components in this wine so if you prefer a mineral taste, it might not be for you. This wine has amazing silky soft fruits and doesn’t get overrun by citrus, butter or oak. Scoring on value for money, at $10 it’s probably the best white wine I’ve experienced thus far. In fact, I’m buying a case.

5/5 Grapes!
