Into Temptation

“Crowded House is a cheeky, younger sibling of Catalina Sounds. These are fresh, easy drinking, unpretentious wines with clean, crisp aromatics.” -crowded-house.co.nz/wines/

The bottle I have before me comes from one of my first recommendations for the site. It is a well received wine by critics, winning the Blue Gold award at the Sydney International Wine Competition (2012). Coming in at $14 and easy to locate at most major liquor outlets, I was keen to give it a go.

Crowded House (New Zealand/Marlborough)

  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • 2011
  • 12.5%
  • 750ml (Screw Top)
  • I paid: $14

Opening this wine is like opening a bag of lollies. Artificial sweet scented apple, pineapple, lime and melons simultaneously burst from the bottle. Lightly fizzy on the tongue, a lolly like banana taste followed by a lemon peel and pineapple midsection leave the experience tasting like a very light, easy to stomach fruit punch. Subtle sour apple wraps up the end nicely, polishing the cheeks with a good acidic twang.

The sweet lolly components are subtle and all add to the enjoyment of the wine. A good diverse range of fruits and a hint of minerals leave the experience well rounded and easily worth the $14. Drink with fish n’ chips seafood :)

4/5 Grapes!
